November Events - The Keys Holiday Season Begins..

The Florida Keys Holiday season begins in November like most places but includes unique and colorful activities for all ages. The lighting of palm trees and the tropical temperatures make this a wonderful place to be during the holidays.

November 3rd, Islamorada - Corvettes in Paradise

November of each year the Florida Keys Corvette Club hosts “Corvettes in Paradise”. This years event is being held at the Holiday Isle Beach Resorts and Marina, November 3rd mile marker 84 Oceanside in Islamorada. Viewing the ‘Vettes is free.

The Florida Keys Corvette Club located in Summerland Key Florida is a Non-profit, social-charitable organization devoted to the Corvette enthusiast. They are dedicated exclusively to Corvettes while supporting scholarships for graduating seniors in the Keys, safe driving and good community relations.

Event attendees can examine a replica of the rare 1963 Grand Sport and the special ZR-1 Corvette and meet representatives of “Vette Vues,” the magazine of Corvette enthusiasts. “Corvette From the Inside” author Dave McLellan, who served as chief engineer at Chevrolet from 1975 to 1992 and wrote about the car’s 50-year development history, will sign books, posters, hats and T-shirts for Corvette connoisseurs.

November 4th - November 11th, Key West hosts the Annual World Championship High-speed Powerboat Races.

Often described as the Indianapolis 500 of powerboat racing it is considered one of the top offshore racing venues in the world. The triangular route runs through Key West Harbor and the Gulf of Mexico where racers can reach speeds in excess of 125 mph.

While the seas in the harbor are usually calm, the Gulf leg of the race can be like hitting a brick wall with winds prevailing from the northwest sometimes creating six foot waves.

Sponsored by Fountain Powerboats, the week-long world championship kicks off Sunday, Nov. 5, with a late afternoon parade of boats down Duval Street, Key West’s main drag.

More than 10 classes are to be divided into three separate heats, during three separate days of racing including Wednesday, Nov. 8, Friday, Nov. 10 and Sunday, Nov. 12. Action is to begin at 10 a.m. each race day.

Viewing opportunities include general admission and VIP packages at Truman Annex, the event’s headquarters and dry pits; as well as several hotels that line the Key West Harbor waterfront.

November 15th - December 8th, Marathon Key
The Marathon Community Theatre will be presenting the play “California Suite”. The play is comprised of four vignettes allowing you a glimpse into the lives of different groups of guests staying in the same suite at the Beverly Hills Hotel over the course of a Year. The shows are scheduled Thursday through Saturday evenings at 8 pm. MM 49.5 For more information call (305) 743-0994

November 23 - December 2nd, Key West Tennessee Williams Theatre
The Tennessee Williams Theater will be presenting “Nutcracker Key West”. The Keys version of the classic ballet presented by Joyce Stahl. The adaptation including chickens, roosters, sea fans, anemones, and even a conch shell will have eleven showings. For more information please call (305) 296-1520

November 29th - December 2nd, Key West Pirates in Paradise 2007
This is just fun! All of Key West and Fort Zachary Taylor are turned into a pirates stronghold with more than 150 pirate entertainers invading the Key. There are tall ships, sea battles, arts and crafts, pirate sails, and a living history encampment. A celebration of Key West’s maritime history that will take you back in time. November 30th - Islamorada Holiday Festival
Founders Park located at MM 87 is the place to kick off the holiday season in the Keys with a pirate Santa and the lighting of a 35 foot Christmas Tree. Just for the warm weather guests a real snow mountain will be created to provide a little winter feeling. For more information call (305) 664-8516
