The Keys are so unique. I know you will hear that about lots of places.. and it is of course true but one of the things that I really love about the Keys is that other than the most touristy of Keys we maintain our small town feel.
I would like to share a story that is representative of what happens time and time again in the Keys. About a year and a half ago a small “mom & pop” eatery decided to sell out to a group from out East. The locals all groaned because it was the usual story. We would all miss this family place where you could go and you were known and greeted.. kind of the “cheers” sort of place to someone new who may or may not understand what it means to live and work in the Keys.
The new owners changed, painted, and renamed this beloved little place and tried to turn it into the next big thing. That almost never works here.. the local community is incredibly loyal as well as those of you who visit year after year. Suffice it to say that the business never took off, the new owners didnt understand at all what the Keys are about and have given the establishment back to the original owners.
Well just yesterday I found out that the previous owners will in fact be re-opening our beloved “Galley Grille”. I love this place.. in fact I live within walking distance. So I want to say, Welcome Back Galley Grille and thank you for bringing back to us a small piece of what the Keys are really all about!
You can find the Galley Grille right on US1 MM 24.5 Oceanside and they will be reopening at the end of April 2008.
