A 31-year-old mother of two from eastern Iowa beat 40 million to 1 odds and is now the proud owner of a $2.2 million home on the Florida Keys.

Stephanie Dee of Solon, Iowa, won the 2008 HGTV Dream Home, located in a new development in Islamorada, Fla.

Dee, a physician’s assistant, thought that her girlfriends had gathered to give her an early birthday party when HGTV’s Lauren Lake knocked on her door. Her shock once she learned the news was telecast Sunday night on HGTV.

“I don’t know what to say,” said a teary-eyed Dee. “Thank you, thank you.” Dee’s name was drawn from more than 40 million entries.

Along with the fully furnished bayside home, she also receives a matching Doggy Dream Home and a 2008 GMC Yukon Hybrid.

“We’re very fortunate,” Dee’s husband, Tommy, said. “I can’t believe we really won!”

Spring Break in Full Swing in the Keys

Spring Break… aaaahhhh. The Keys, specifically Key West has been known as a spring break haven for many years.

This year the influx of young people also coincides with Daytona Bike festivities so we have quite a crowd of mixed people.

Unfortunatley the last week or so has not had the greatest of weather with temps in the 70’s not that anyone would complain about that, but with high winds and intermittent rain. The upcoming forecast is for the tempratures to return to the 80’s with abundant sunshine.

Sloppy Joe’s, The Green Parrot, and Smather’s Beach are all busy places. It is kind of humorous to see the mixture of shirtless and bikini clad young people riding mopeds intermingled with leather wrapped bikers driving the streets of Key West.

Come Easter weekend things will slow a bit and the week or two after will bring a few of the late spring break school students here… Season in the Keys is beginning to wind down.

Soon it will be warm days, little traffic, light winds and 80 degree water for you summer travelers. A great time for fishing and snorkeling with the calming of the seas and a more quiet time as well.

So if you are in a “Come Party” mood and want to mix with the “youngsters” now is your time to shine!
