New Years Eve Celebrations in the Florida Keys

fireworks With an expected influx of over 50,000 people and temperatures near 80 Key West will be hopping tonight. There will be fireworks, the dropping of the Conch Shell at Sloppy Joe’s, the lowering of the Pirate Wench from the top of the mast of the tall ship Liberty Clipper at the Historic Seaport and of course the Red Shoe drop carrying Drag Queen Sushi at the Bourbon Street Bar.

If you aren’t able to be here for the celebration CNN will be covering it live tonight and you can also log on live to any one of our many Keys web-cams. (Don’t forget to right click to zoom in!) There are several available on the lower left of the page so choose your favorite and watch the craziness happen.

At the top of the Keys Key Largo will be hosting the annual Fireworks at Blackwater Sound, MM 103-104. Best viewing will be from the Marriott Key Largo Beach Resort and the Caribbean Club. Always a crowd pleaser this is a great event if you would like to skip the “bar scene”.

Wishing you all a Happy and safe New Year… Keys Style!

Visiting the Florida Keys, Don’t Miss the Point.

Life is goodOne of the really frustrating things for me about visitors to the Florida Keys is that they seem to miss the whole point. I hear, or read reviews about the Keys where people were really unhappy with their visit because they expect what the local TDC (Tourist Development Council) promotes.

What they fail to realize is that the TDC is working very hard for the tourist dollar, not that there is anything wrong with that, but when I talk to people who are thinking of coming here they talk about things like quiet, escape, serenity, the tropics and being at their leisure not the bars and parties. Ok, except if you’re coming for Fantasy Fest.
